Aircraft Carrier Airport Codes?

Postby davefollmers on Mon Feb 05, 2018 9:02 am

Hello all,

I know the ICAO and IATA assign Nxx/Nxxx codes to Navy bases presumably for diversion purposes,

but what about carriers?

Do they have codes as well?

Thank you

I did not find the right solution from the internet

Hi Dave,

They might but I doubt carriers have IATA/ICAO airport code because they are mobile. If you plugged the codes into an FMC/FMS (Flight Management Computer/Flight Management System) the database wouldn't know their present position so it wouldn't have much value as a diversionary airport for the navy. I did an approach to the old HMAS Melbourne once but have never landed on one,

Cheers
