Type Font for Pennant Lettering

Postby Ross-Nicholls-MNL on Fri Sep 04, 2015 8:50 pm

Hi All,

I am building a custom scale (1:87.5 - 4 times larger than 1:350) Type 45 Destroyer.

I would like to produce decals for the model, however I cannot find the correct font name.

I have seen from other posts that i can buy sets etc, but I need a size they don't produce. They are not the correct scale.

I also need it ASAP as i am showing the model in London starting 13th Sept !!! HELP

Thanks

Ross

The RN in its standards specifies the size, colour and placement of Pennant Numbers but it does not state the font type. Try BECC for pennants as they have a range of RN pennant numbers in various sizes.

Is it worth getting the BECC sheet, scanning and scaling?

In your scale you would need 21mm high numbers for the hull and 14mm for the transom. Becc do them in 19mm & 13mm which should work for you.

Hello all,

I am building a Leeds Castle P258 and am curious as to where I might find the RN specifics concerning pennant numbers and their dimensions as mentioned in a previous post. I would be pleased to know the true size I require as the two plans sets don't agree and I believe are only suggestive.

I note that BECC sheets come in a variety of sizes up to 25mm and then the next and final is 38mm. Apparently they are willing to produce specific pennant numbers ready spaced to customers requests etc for a reasonable price.

Having seen a sheet of their 38mm high lettering I am wondering if the white edging needs to be reduced down to 1mm. I may be wrong but the letters seem to have a thick edging, rather more than what appears in photos.

I also noticed that 'over a period of time' The black tends to take on a dark greenish tint.
